The Wakefield Democratic Town Committee (WDTC) invites you to attend one of our monthly meetings.

The WDTC formally organized as an elected body in 1996.  Our charter states that we “are united in seeking for our state, our nation and all peoples individual and political freedoms and social and economic justice.”

The work of the WDTC in conjunction with the Massachusetts and National Democratic Party is “to implement systems of equal opportunity regardless of race, national origin, creed, sex, age, religion or sexual orientation” while remaining “receptive to new solutions to social and political problems.” Source:  Town Committee By-Laws

Our membership as either an Elected or Associate member is open to registered Democrats in Wakefield.  We meet monthly (except during the summer) to support candidates who stand for democratic values and to become informed on current issues.  Members of the WDTC are formally voted into office during presidential town elections.

Examples of Wakefield Democratic Town Committee recent activism:

  • Members have marched, demonstrated and volunteered in variety of ways to support policy issues such as Immigration, Environment, Health Care, etc.
  • Members have participated in regional educational events to become better informed.
  • A WDTC subcommittee, Wakefield’s Blue Wave, hosted a series of educational and social fundraising events to support a national candidate for the House of Representatives as part of a national movement.
  • To increase voter turnout in Wakefield, we handwrote almost 500 postcards to Democrats who tended to bypass midterm elections urging them to vote.
  • The committee invited candidates for local Wakefield elections to speak before our committee. We opened this meeting to local residents.
  • We hosted a well attended regional breakfast so folks could meet statewide Democrat officials and candidates.
  • We invite issue-based advocacy organizations to address our members at meetings.
  • High school students are active participants in our committee.

The WDTC invites you to attend one of our meetings to explore whether our committee and its work would be of interest to you.  Please contact any member or contact our Chairperson, Don Ravenelle at info@wakefielddems.org.
